Red Sangria
Sangria is a refreshing Spanish punch made with red wine, fruit, and often a splash of brandy or soda. It’s a popular choice for social gatherings and is known for its vibrant flavors and colorful appearance.
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle (750ml) red wine: Choose a dry red wine like Tempranillo, Garnacha, or Merlot.
- 1/4 cup brandy (optional but traditional): Adds depth and complexity.
- 1/4 cup orange liqueur: Such as Triple Sec or Cointreau.
- 2 tablespoons sugar: Adjust to taste depending on your preference for sweetness.
- 1 orange: Thinly sliced.
- 1 lemon: Thinly sliced.
- 1 lime: Thinly sliced.
- 1 apple: Cored and cut into thin slices or small cubes.
- 1-2 cups fresh or frozen fruit: Such as berries, pineapple, or peaches.
- 1-2 cups soda water or lemon-lime soda: Adds fizz and lightens the drink.
- Ice: For serving.
Instructions:
- Prepare the fruit:
- Wash and slice the orange, lemon, and lime. Core and cut the apple into thin slices or small cubes.
- If using additional fruit like berries or pineapple, cut them into bite-sized pieces.
- Mix the sangria:
- In a large pitcher or bowl, combine the red wine, brandy (if using), orange liqueur, and sugar.
- Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add the fruit:
- Add the sliced and chopped fruit to the mixture.
- Stir to combine.
- Chill:
- Cover the pitcher or bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results. This allows the flavors to meld and the fruit to infuse the sangria.
- Serve:
- Just before serving, add soda water or lemon-lime soda to the sangria for a fizzy touch. Adjust the amount based on your preference for sweetness and carbonation.
- Serve over ice in glasses.
