Red Sangria

Red Sangria

Sangria is a refreshing Spanish punch made with red wine, fruit, and often a splash of brandy or soda. It’s a popular choice for social gatherings and is known for its vibrant flavors and colorful appearance.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle (750ml) red wine: Choose a dry red wine like Tempranillo, Garnacha, or Merlot.
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional but traditional): Adds depth and complexity.
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur: Such as Triple Sec or Cointreau.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar: Adjust to taste depending on your preference for sweetness.
  • 1 orange: Thinly sliced.
  • 1 lemon: Thinly sliced.
  • 1 lime: Thinly sliced.
  • 1 apple: Cored and cut into thin slices or small cubes.
  • 1-2 cups fresh or frozen fruit: Such as berries, pineapple, or peaches.
  • 1-2 cups soda water or lemon-lime soda: Adds fizz and lightens the drink.
  • Ice: For serving.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the fruit:
    • Wash and slice the orange, lemon, and lime. Core and cut the apple into thin slices or small cubes.
    • If using additional fruit like berries or pineapple, cut them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Mix the sangria:
    • In a large pitcher or bowl, combine the red wine, brandy (if using), orange liqueur, and sugar.
    • Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the fruit:
    • Add the sliced and chopped fruit to the mixture.
    • Stir to combine.
  4. Chill:
    • Cover the pitcher or bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results. This allows the flavors to meld and the fruit to infuse the sangria.
  5. Serve:
    • Just before serving, add soda water or lemon-lime soda to the sangria for a fizzy touch. Adjust the amount based on your preference for sweetness and carbonation.
    • Serve over ice in glasses.
