Grissini Poppy Seed
Grissini, the Italian breadsticks, are light, crispy, and delicious with Poppy seeds sprinkled on top for an extra touch of flavor and crunch. Here’s a straightforward recipe to make your own poppy seed Grissini at home.
Ingredients
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp instant yeast
- 3/4 cup (180ml) warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for brushing
- 1–2 tbsp poppy seeds (or to taste)
- Sea salt (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar. Add the yeast to the warm water, stirring to dissolve, then pour it into the flour mixture. Add the olive oil and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball, place it back in the bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Shape Grissini: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Divide the dough into 20–25 small portions and roll each into long, thin sticks, about 8–10 inches (20–25 cm) long.
- Add Poppy Seeds: Lightly brush each dough stick with olive oil and sprinkle poppy seeds evenly over each. Gently press the seeds into the dough so they stick.
- Bake: Place the Grissini on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until they are golden and crispy. If you like them extra crispy, bake an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Cool: Let the Grissini cool on a wire rack before serving.
