Bacon, Mushroom, and Spinach Frittata
A frittata is a versatile and delicious egg-based dish that can be served for breakfast, brunch, or even dinner. This version combines the savory flavors of bacon, mushrooms, and spinach for a satisfying and hearty meal.
Ingredients:
- 6 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream
- 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (about 4-5 slices)
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini mushrooms work well)
- 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the Bacon:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy.
- Remove the bacon from the skillet, crumble it, and set aside. Drain excess fat from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon.
- Cook the Vegetables:
- In the same skillet, add the olive oil and heat over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until softened about 5 minutes.
- Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and become golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted about 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Prepare the Egg Mixture:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk or cream, salt, pepper, thyme, and oregano.
- Stir in the cooked bacon, mushroom mixture, and shredded cheese.
- Cook the Frittata:
- Wipe out the skillet used for the vegetables and return it to medium heat.
- Pour the egg mixture into the skillet and cook without stirring for about 2 minutes, until the edges start to set.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.
- Bake:
- Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the frittata is set in the center and lightly browned on top.
- A toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
- Cool and Serve:
- Let the frittata cool for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
Tips:
- Additions: You can add other ingredients like bell peppers, tomatoes, or herbs to customize the frittata.
- Cheese: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses like feta, goat cheese, or Swiss.
- Crustless: Frittatas are naturally crustless, making them a great low-carb option.
This bacon, mushroom, and spinach frittata is a versatile dish that’s easy to make and perfect for any meal. Enjoy it fresh from the oven or as leftovers for a quick and satisfying meal!
